is a magazine published by the Humane Education Trust in South Africa. The HET is an organisation dedicated to rekindling the spirit of care and respect for all life, and is the official mouthpiece in South Africa of Compassion in World Farming.

The idea behind Abandoned is to have a single site dedicated to all the various organisations trying to find a good home for abandoned animals in South Africa. Abandoned was created to increase awareness of the various organisations and to help with the ever increasing need to find the perfect placement for those abandoned and abused pets.
Every province in South Africa has a section under which you will find the various organisations and groups desperately trying to home a loving pet. Details on how to adopt a specific pet from one of these organisations are displayed under their separate section along with pictures of the animal up for adoption and any relevant information regarding that animal.
You will find links to those organisation's websites in their section if you wish to donate or find out any further details regarding them. Please visit those sites, as Abandoned may or may not be able to display every single animal up for adoption.
Abandoned is solely funded and maintained by a group of very caring likeminded individuals with experience in the animal rescue and re-homing field.
Ikkos Equine Sanctuary

The Greek word for
horse is Ikkos, it also means the "Great Light", come and enjoy
our enlightening all round equestrian experiences. Ikkos Equine
Sanctuar rescues abandoned and abused equines and other animals - If you
have or anyone you know has an equine they no longer want please contact
me!
Ikkos equine therapy
- come and walk with our equines and groom and feed them and get to know
them.
Adopt an equine or
another animal here at the sanctuary – a unique gift for yourself or a
loved one.
We are looking for
sponsors for Ikkos Equine Sanctuary and Animal Haven Petting Farm in
Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa. "A safe haven for abandoned and
abused animals". We currently take care of 16 horses and 7
donkeys and many other animals and are expanding to re-home more
abandoned and abused equines or equines in need of a loving new home.
There are so many
equines out there that are deemed to be unsuitable to be re-homed or
belong to owners who can’t or don’t want to take care of them anymore.
We want to give these equines a second chance at life and a second
chance at happiness and offer them a loving place in our home and in our
hearts.
The horses currently
at the sanctuary were all in need of a loving new home and most of them
are retired and the rest we use for leisurely outrides and what we call
‘equine therapy’. Equine therapy is an experience for people of all
ages, people come out and visit our equines and spend time grooming and
feeding them and learning more about equine health, care and behaviour.
The experience also includes a leisurely laid back stroll with our
ponies, donkeys and horses that can’t be ridden. This gives people the
chance to see the beautiful environment of the Klein Karoo and also be
able to interact with the equines on a different level.

representing equine welfare organizations, equine rescues and
individuals involved in a grass roots effort dedicated to ending the
slaughter of American Horses and the protection of our Wild Horses &
Burros on public lands.

The Horse Junction
web site was started by the late Ronelle de Villiers in 1999, with the
help of her husband Roelof. It was Ronelle's vision to create a place
where horse lovers can find information and share ideas and knowledge.
With her passing on 11 June 2006, Roelof handed over the site to Izak
Hofmeyr, a freelance agricultural journalist and fellow horse fanatic.
Due to mechanization, in-depth horse knowledge has all but disappeared
in many parts of the world. It is only here and there that one finds a
truly knowledgeable horseman. On the other hand the demand for sound
horse knowledge is growing as more and more people want to spend their
time with horses and learn more about these wonderful creatures. It is
in filling this void that Horse Junction wants to play a role. Our
vision is to be the one-stop knowledge source for horse enthusiasts all
over the world.
